Frequently Asked Questions

Will my child get spotted by Manchester United and become a Manchester United player?
The main focus on every Manchester United Soccer Schools course is that all children achieve success regardless of ability. The camps are not specifically designed as talent identification camps. However, we are confident that every child will leave the camps with the knowledge and skills to become a better player.

Will I meet any Manchester United players?
I’m afraid not – Manchester United players do not attend these camps. However, if your camp dates coincide with a Manchester United match, we will always try to arrange for the group to attend. Also, you could win the Skills Test and have the opportunity to play at Old Trafford during a Premiership match!

My English is not very good – is that OK?
Some of our students have very limited English language skills but still have a great time on our camps. The soccer coaches can easily demonstrate all of the skills and our English language teachers are trained to work with students from beginner right up to advanced level. In 2011 we hosted students of over 75 different nationalities – all interacting together to improve their communication skills in English.

When students arrive at the camp they are given a short English language test to determine their level and ability. Students are then put into small groups (maximum 16 per group) according to their ability. This enables our staff to adapt the curriculum and the lessons to suit the ability of all the students in the class.

Will my soccer ability be good enough?
These camps are open to players of all abilities. The Manchester United Soccer Schools coaches are not only UEFA qualified but they are also highly experienced at coaching children of different nationalities. They are able to get the best out of all the players. Participants should expect an intensive programme that will improve their football skills. For the soccer sessions the students are grouped according to their age group.

How much pocket money should I bring?
This is entirely up to the student and their parent/guardian. All the food and accommodation is provided, along with all the excursions. Students may wish to bring some money to buy souvenirs, Manchester United merchandise, extra drinks/snacks. Around £100 per week is a guideline figure.

Can I store my money/valuables somewhere safe?
Our staff can offer a secure storage facility at the camp so children can deposit their money/valuables with our staff and then take out a small amount of money each day. Please note that we are not liable for any items lost at the camp.

Are there any laundry facilities at the camp?
At all of our camps there is the opportunity to do laundry, however, we recommend that students bring plenty of spare clothes/kit with them so that they do not have to do much laundry at the camp. Our staff will supervise and help the students to do their own laundry, but our staff will not do their laundry for them. Some of our camps may require a small fee to use the laundry service.

Is there internet/wifi available at the camp?
At all of our camps children can use the internet through one of our designated computer suites. Unfortunately there is no wifi available at any of our camps.

Can my child stay for more than 2 weeks?
Each camp lasts 2 weeks, so if your child would like to stay for longer they can book two successive camps and stay for a total of 4 weeks. However, please be advised that our 2 week camp is physically demanding and therefore staying for longer than our standard 2 week camp may not be suitable for younger children.
