Our courses begin on a Sunday. As the student's first meal with us is dinner, we recommend that the best time to arrive is between 11:00am - 17:00pm. This allows time for a welcome chat and time to settle in before dinner. The first MUSS soccer coaching session will take place on the Sunday evening, a light session that gives participants the chance to meet each other and the MUSS coaches.
Breakfast is the last meal the student will have with CMT Learning; however we will also provide a packed lunch for their journey home. We encourage students to depart after breakfast if possible as this allows us to prepare for the next in-take of students - this allows us to ensure each student gets the best CMT Learning welcome. Departure should be between 07:00am – 16:00pm.
We know how important it is for parents to contact their children while studying with us. We will provide you with a contact telephone number for CMT Learning at the Centre. In case of an emergency, we will also give you the CMT Learning 24 hour Emergency telephone number, however this number is only for use in emergencies!
Our friendly and professional Head Office staff are available during office hours and are always happy to help in any way they can. In emergencies outside of office hours, you may contact a CMT Learning Representative on the 24 hour Emergency telephone number, however this number is only for use in emergencies! The phone numbers will be given to you prior to the course dates.
Every student will have access to computers in order to email or access the internet - on at least 3-4 occasions each week.
We understand that some children are homesick when they first arrive in England. CMT Learning recommends that parents discourage their child from calling home too often at this time and try to persuade them to speak to someone at the Centre.
Individual students will be looked after by the Pastoral Team - who will assist the student to settle in, introduce them to other students and answer any questions they may have. The Pastoral Team will monitor the student and generally take care of them. If students are part of a group, the group leader will assume these duties.
If your child cannot overcome their homesickness and wants to return home, we will assist them in any way we can to make the experience less traumatic.
Our staff will deal with any minor illnesses/incidents on site - however if your child requires medical attention our staff will accompany them to a doctor / hospital for consultation. Parents will of course be informed if we have to take this course of action. On booking, parents will also be required to complete an additional consent form.
Here is a list of things we suggest your child should bring when attending the Manchester United Soccer Schools English language programme. Please pack a large amount of soccer training kit, as the soccer coaching course generally takes place outside and many changes of clothes can be required.
The programme is delivered by MUSS trained, UEFA qualified coaches using the MUSS Development Model.
There are 20 hours of football coaching per week. Week 1 will focus on skill development. Week 2 will focus on tactics and match play. Please refer to the course timetable.
Early in your child's stay on the programme, they will receive the following branded MUSS merchandise:
On every MUSS coaching course, participants take part in a number of unique skills challenges. Designed by the UEFA qualified coaches, these challenges are specifically tailored so that all participants, regardless of age, can compete on level terms.
One winner per course will be invited to compete in the World Skills Final in Manchester in October or November 2010.
A winner's place includes the following:

Each student will receive 12.5 hours of English tuition per week divided over 4-5 afternoons. Each session consists of 1 lesson periods of 90 minutes and 1 lesson of 60 minutes - with a break in between.
Yes! All children are tested at the start of their course and retested at the end of their course. Students are grouped according to their English ability and not their age or nationality. This ensures the need to communicate in English as a common language whilst developing new international friendships!
There will usually be a maximum of 15 students in a class.
We know how important it is for children to have nutritious meals, not only for their health, but to help them study.
You must advise of your child's dietary/medical requirements at the time of booking – either on the website booking section or by advising your agent. We will then inform our staff at the centre and ensure that your students' needs are catered for.
The safety and well being of all children on our courses is of paramount importance to us. We therefore restrict visitor access to Thursday morning from 10.00am - 12 noon. This allows the children to settle into the residential lifestyle and maintain their safety and security.
The MUSS group will go on full day excursions to:
Blackpool Pleasure Beach and Old Trafford stadium - home of Manchester United FC.
The MUSS group will go on half day excursions to:
The National Football Museum, Preston and shopping at the Trafford Centre, Manchester.
Our course prices already include accommodation, meals, workbooks and excursion entrances; therefore we do not recommend that children bring too much pocket money. However they will visit the Megastore at Old Trafford and may wish to purchase Manchester United merchandise.
The washing of bedding and towels will be carried out by the college. We encourage personal laundry to be done once a week. All washing machines, dryers and washing powder are provided at Myerscough College.
